THE KENAI –
WHERE KINGS ARE KING

RW’s Fishing Guide Service is located on the banks of the Kenai River in Soldotna, Alaska. This turquoise-colored, gentle flowing river begins in the Kenai mountains.

The Kenai is a unique river system in that two distinct runs with three different species of salmon (Kings, Silvers and Reds ) occur – an extremely rare event! More important, the Kenai River is home to the world’s largest salmon – The Kenai Kings. These fish run during May, June and July.

We Commonly Catch 45-70 pound King (Chinook) salmon on the Kenai and every year we land several fish that weigh 70-85 pounds. The new world record King salmon (97-1/4 pounds) came from the genetically unique Kenai stock during the 1985 season.
Can you imagine the thrill of hooking and pulling in one of these monsters? We can give you this opportunity!

Let Your Dreams Come True - Fish The Kenai River

Feisty Silver (Coho) salmon enter the Kenai each year in late July. These fish range from 8-20 pounds. Silver fishing really takes off from August through early October, a time frame over which two separate runs occur. Imagine a crisp autumn morning on the river amid flaming fall foliage. The two fish per day limit affords you the chance for some spectacular fishing action. Silver fishing is exciting and fun at its best. Throughout the Silver fishing season, RW’s clients enjoy their daily catch limits. During the 1998 season, we fished the first and second place finishers in the Kenai Silver Salmon Derby.

Halibut Heaven

Round out your visit to Alaska with a halibut fishing adventure.

One of the most successful and famous sport fisheries for “barn door” halibut occurs in the salt water off the tip of the Kenai Peninsula.

From May through September we can put you on a boat out of Homer, Ninilchik, or Seward where you will have a chance to see glaciers, whales and a variety of marine birds over a 12 hour period. Of course, you will have an opportunity to land two nice halibut in an area where 100 pounders are common! What a thrill it is to hook into one of these beasts and see it slowly rising from the deep clear water, getting bigger and bigger as you crank it in – not always an easy task!

The Kasilof Connection

While we use comfortable power boats on the Kenai River, we provide you with another relaxing option on the nearby Kasilof River – just 10 miles away. On the Kasilof, we put you and your companion in a drift boat. One of our experienced guides will then row you on a 6-8 hour wilderness float for hookups with numerous 30-50 pound King salmon as well as tail dancing Red (Sockeye) salmon!

We offer scenic float trips on the nearby Kasilof River during May, June, and July.
